Life cycle assessment of lithium?ion battery recycling using pyrometallurgical technologies

چکیده

Among existing and emerging technologies to recycle spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) from electric vehicles, pyrometallurgical processes are commercially used. However, very little is known about their environmental energy impacts. In this study, three analyzed compared in terms of global warming potential (GWP) cumulative demand (CED), namely: an direct current (DC) plasma smelting technology (Sc-1), the same DC but with additional pre-treatment stage (Sc-2), a more mature ultra-high temperature (UHT) furnace (Sc-3). The net impacts for recovered metals calculated using both “open-loop” “closed-loop” recycling options. Results reveal that shifting UHT (Sc-3) could reduce GWP process by up factor 5 (when employing pre-treatment, as case Sc-2). also vary across factors, example, different metal recovery rates, carbon/energy intensity electricity grid (in Sc-1 Sc-2), rates aluminum sources coke Sc-3). sensitivity analysis showed these factors do not change best option which was determined before (as Sc-2) except few cases CED. Overall, research methodology application presented life cycle assessment informs future impact studies want assess LIB or other technologies. assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...

Comparative study of municipal solid waste treatment technologies using life cycle assessment method

The aim of the study is to analyze three different waste treatment technologies by life cycle assessment tool. Sanitary Landfill, Incineration and gasification-pyrolysis of the waste treatment technologies are studied in SimaPro software based on input-output materials flow. SimaPro software has been applied for analyzing environmental burden by different impact categories. All technologies are...

Using Life-cycle Assessment for Sustainable Consumption

The 2002 World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg called for a comprehensive set of programs focusing on sustainable consumption and production. According to world leaders, these programs should rely on life cycle analysis (LCA) to promote sustainable patterns of production and consumption. Cleaner production is a wellestablished activity and it uses LCA. UNEP, the European Unio...
